How does it work?

This plan was created by the GB athletics coach John Shepherd and editor of Outdoor Fitness Magazine. It is a 6 week running plan that will guide your training each week and support your running goals by improving your speed and bringing you to a new level!

The plan requires you to run 3 times per week and the runs are called:
Run 1
Run 2
Run 3
You choose which day of the week you run, but ideally try and keep at least one rest day between each running day.

If at the end of the plan and after your 10k you have not achieved the time you wanted then take a couple of weeks off and then re-commence the plan.

10k Speed
A 10k should be run at a speed that is just below your anaerobic threshold – this pace is best described as ‘sustainable discomfort’. Despite the name, anaerobic threshold is actually the maximum pace that you can maintain aerobically.

What’s a good 10k time for a runner?
40-50min average
34-40min good
Sub 33min very good
Sub 30 elite

John has also published several books on fitness and training.

I did it! I reached those 10k! Genuinely didn't think i would make it, and it took me a bit longer than it should have, but i made it and i am so proud of myself! I would never have done it without the help of this plan!!

I started it with my girlfriend a couple of months ago, we found it so easy and made me improved day by day. The goals are manageable and push you without being overwhelmed. Now I'm so much happier with myself and proud every time I finish a run. Highly recommend!
