Why go organic?

By now we are all aware of the worldwide trend towards organic foods. But many people are still averse to buying organic based on the extra cost and disbelief that it’s actually that much better for us.

Please consider this absolutely imperative information when it comes to buying organic foods.


Nutrient values

It is virtually impossible to believe that there is no significant difference in nutritional value between organic and conventionally grown produce when you consider what organic farming actually entails compared to conventional farming.

There has been much scientific research (for example Virginia Worthington MS, ScD, CNS or evaluations by The British Soil Association, and many more) comparing organic and biodynamic crops to those conventionally farmed.

Published comparisons were reviewed and in these comparisons, results were clearly indicative of organic crops having higher nutrient levels and lower levels of toxicity.

Organic foods are always found to be significantly better.

Nature’s garbage disposal

Conventional foods are sprayed with toxic chemicals to keep away pests in the crops. When studying parasitology and biodynamics, it’s clear that pests only arrive in a garden who’s soil and crops are not deemed healthy enough for life in nature.

Pests and parasites are nature’s very own garbage disposal!

The ingredient list for conventional produce is long, here we’ll look at the ingredients in one singular conventional Apple (that was washed!) including but not limited to:

Thiabendazole, Diphenylamine (DPA), Acetamiprid, Azinphos Methyl, Imidacloprid, Carbendazim (MBC), Phosmet, Tetrahydrophthalimide (THPI), Trifloxystrobin, Fenpropathrin, Carbaryl, Boscalid, o-Phenylphenol, Captan, Etoxazole, Pyraclostrobin, Fenpyroximate, Diflubenzuron, Pyrimethanil, Myclobutanil, 1-Naphthol, Thiacloprid, Endosulfan II, Endosulfan I, Endosulfan Sulfate, Diazinon, Tebufenozide, Chlorpyrifos, Cyprodinil, Buprofezin, Omethoate, Dimethoate, Methomyl, Esenvalerate+Fenvalerate Total, Cyhalothrin, Total (Cyhalothrin-L + R157836 epimer), Clofentezine, Oxamyl, Pyriproxyfen, Permethrin cis, Phosalone.

These are all known or probable carcinogens, hormone disruptors, neurotoxins, developmental or reproductive toxins, honeybee toxins etc, and have been linked to a myriad of health issues (surprisingly including and definitely not limited to Parkinson’s disease!).

Some conventional farming companies have even applied for use of the unapproved antibiotic kasugamycin, whose effects on humans, ground water and animal reproduction and development are unknown.

Pesticide-related illness is the leading cause of acute morbidity among migrant farm workers.

Some of the pesticides listed above account for over half of the cases of acute illness.

The ingredients of an organic apple, is “Apple.” Literally! This goes for all conventional vs organic foods across the board. When it comes to meat, eating non organic meat is especially dangerous!

Conventional vs Organic

Conventionally farmed animals are fed grains and corn that are difficult for humans to digest along with antibiotics, growth hormones, other chemicals and have even been found to be fed cement dust, cardboard, paper and industrial oils and wastes, etc.

These antibiotics are now starting to cause serious problems in densely-stocked industrial farms, where the feed that the animals contain low doses of antibiotics.

These create ideal breeding grounds for drug-resistant bacteria that move from animals to humans, thus causing humans to become resistant to certain western medicines.

Full of toxins

Aside from that, the regulations are not so strict in that they allow meat to be butchered and sold from animals containing cancerous tumors and other serious defects.

They simply take the meat from the part of the animal that is not infected.

We must consider that what the animal eats, what its cells are re-created from, and what we eat (whatever is in the cow) and therefore what our own cells are re-created from.

This increases the incidence of rogue cells within our own bodies (rogue cells are indeed what cancer cells are made from). With these facts in mind conventional foods don’t seem so appetising.
