Janet Campbell is a versatile talent whose exotic looks are only surpassed by her genuine warmth and sense of humor. She is an accomplished martial artist and Pro K1- Kick-boxer. She lives in Los Angeles and New York City, when she isn’t traveling fulfilling her entertainment business and acting/modeling commitments.

Campbell also enjoys training her celebrity clients fitness and nutrition. Born in Melbourne, Australia, Janet and has spent time working in Hollywood, London, Paris and Milan and visiting her ancestral home, Turkey. She is a multifaceted individual with professional experience in all areas of performance and fitness.

Her roles have ranged as a dancer, spokes-model, fitness model, actress, producer, stuntwoman and nutritional consultant. I was fortunate enough to connect with her while training at Gold’s Gym, Venice L.A, our second home and the Mecca of bodybuilding. Janet gave me an insightful interview into her exciting life.


Tell me about how you got started in fitness and the competition path… I passionately believe in fitness and nutrition.

I passionately believe in fitness and nutrition. Growing up in Australia, a country where physical well-being is a part of the natural fibre of the people, I learned to value the state of my body as an indication and representation of me as a whole. At age 15, my brother, the late Sonny Schmidt, started me training.

I started kickboxing at!age 17 and have entered many competitions since. I am of Turkish and Spanish ancestry and am fortunate to have been blessed with an exotic and uncommon look, which grew into a successful modeling, acting, and spokesmodel career.

Along the way I also learned that nutrition and fitness were a major contributor to the physical aesthetic. Armed with this realisation, I enrolled at the Victorian Collage for personal trainers and studied fitness and nutrition, so that I could share my passion and inspire others.

Who is your biggest inspiration?

Sonny Schmidt, known for his quiet intensity and balanced physique, winner of the 1995 Masters Olympia. He competed in nearly 55 pro contests, is my biggest inspiration, and I still hear his voice everyday. Sonny was so humble, positive, honest, loyal, career driven and always had my back no matter what. I always wanted him to be so proud of me, I miss him so much… gone too soon but he won’t ever be forgotten (I love you Sonny)

What brought you to LA?

As a health and fitness professional and Hollywood stuntwoman/actress, Los Angeles was the logical decision to call home. Previously I was based in Melbourne and Sydney, but now working in New York and Beverly Hills USA, I have been fortunate to attract a huge celebrity clientele that has included Nicole Kidman, Kylie Minogue, Mel B, Steven Seagal, Keanu Reeves, Ja Rule, Usher, Britney Spears, Beyonce, Angelina Jolie, Jennifer Aniston, George Clooney, Janet Jackson, Anna Nicole Smith, Will Smith, Jada Smith, Manny Pacquiao, Jon Voight, Michael Jackson, Sylvester Stallone, Jeremy Piven and many others.

Whether my client is an entertainment business star, an executive or maybe the most inspiring of all, a mother and homemaker, I strive to profoundly impact their well being through fitness and nutrition. I take an intense and personal interest in each client’s well-being, strive to ensure lasting change and a life of elevated health. My expertise in the health and fitness industry covers personal training, nutrition, and deep tissue sports massage.

I spent years studying many fitness and martial arts disciplines so that I could personalise every client’s regimen and so no two clients’ fitness and nutritional programs are the same. I want to be sure to get to know each client and become a proponent of lasting improvement in his or her physical well-being. Whether my clients’ interests lie in traditional weight training and cardio, yoga, Pilates or kickboxing…

I am prepared to design the training schedule that will work for them. Regarding the nutritional needs of my clients, I work with them to set nutritional guidelines, prepare meals plans and suggest supplements all which maximise training results. Deep tissue sports massage therapy is also available for therapeutic purposes and promotes the most efficient workout recovery.

I can provide all services from my Beverly Hills facility, on-site with the client, or while traveling with my clients. As an actress with fifteen years experience, I have worked on projects such as the Matrix films, and Smokin’ Aces. My industry involvement has since expanded with a step into the producing world, having penned my own new TV show called the “Next Action Hero”.

What was the biggest risk that you took in getting your career started, how did you get the opportunity?

Making a commitment to myself and moving to USA. I must share with you that it was the hardest thing to do – leaving behind my family, friends, and Australian clients. In order to reach goals however, comes sacrifice! I learned that to win you have to also handle losing sometimes.!

I was blessed to be in the right circles with Australian celebrities who were also working in the USA as well, which afforded me the opportunity to continue and add to my client base once I moved here. Their word of mouth is the best advertisement.

I’m interested in learning about your Hollywood background. Could you give me a quick rundown of some of the fun projects that you have worked on?

Matrix films, Smokin ‘Aces film, Street Fighter film, Enough, Wanted, FHM cover, VH1 host, E host, Playboy cover, American Dream, Natalie Wood, K1-Kickboxing competitions ESPN, Neighbours TV show, dancer in Britney Spears, Usher, Janet Jackson music videos…

For a chosen celebrity, please describe a training regimen that you gave them and why they came to you?What kind of results did the celebrity see?

I’ll talk about Nicole Kidman. Most young actresses, like Nicole, have to be in ‘shoot ready’ shape all year round because of regular media appearances, so therefore the training is intense regimen of five days a week.

*Legs are trained twice a week (reverse lunges, good mornings, toe touches and leg presses pushing back at 30-degree angle)

*Upper body work twice a week (push-ups, pull downs, chest flyes, biceps and triceps super-sets, and shoulder lateral raises)

*3 days of abdominal training consisting of 10 different techniques

* 5-6 days of cardiovascular exercise (kickboxing, jumping rope, basketball, tennis, baseball and running)

Washboard abs require an impeccable diet, I’d say it accounts for about 80% in the achievement of great abs. Most people misunderstand the word diet! When I make a diet plan it is eating 6 meals a day with complex carbs, high proteins, no sugar, and a lot of water.!Most of my celebrities you see on the red carpet always look in shape, fit, lean, and healthy…the results speak louder than words!

What are the pitfalls of your line of work?

I noticed my own social life is neglected or poor, as I am always giving to my clients and working so I do have to say that it is challenging to balance it all out. Luckily, I can count on my understanding boyfriend, as we both work very hard and travel a lot.

Last words?

I closed my eyes then drift away back to when I was age 15 and relive what seems like a dream as I hear Sonny’s voice whisper, “You can do it, Aysen…“! With years of experience working on projects and with high profile celebrities, I have learned that I have always kept my loyalty, morals, and family values. Not only have I loved each and every person I have worked with, I also learned from them too!

All I can say is from my own personal experience is never ever give up on your goals and dreams. Believe in yourself, respect yourself, and wake up that fighter in you!I am the best trainer to the ‘stars’ but without the star willing giving me their best 100% of the time, I wouldn’t be where I am.I thank God because during the most difficult stages in my life, the challenge has been a gift. I am so much stronger and prepared because of each experience. Be you! Love you!!You can do it too!

THE NEXT ACTION HERO is a reality TV show where 40 girls battle to be the next Angelina Jolie.

Show Creator Janet Campbell is a Celebrity Trainer/Nutritionist, Actress, Model and Professional Kick boxer, so it is no surprise that her global vision in relation to the role of women in the action genre of film and TV is built on the fundamentals of health and fitness. Recognising that women are as beautiful as they are resilient, Janet is also more than aware that the latter quality is commonly overlooked in Hollywood’s ‘hollow’ pursuit of their next ‘starlet’.

The production, Next Action Hero, promises to guide models, actresses, and stuntwomen through an adventure guaranteed to push their skills to the limit and change their lives forever. Contestants will learn that beauty and fame are mere by-products of hard work and self-motivation

. Every week celebrity judges will be invited to augment a panel of world-renowned stunt/action professionals for the expressed purpose of training, deliberating and subsequently deciding which of the contestants has the ‘star’ quality that is required to become the Next Action Hero.!


The contestants will live together in one mansion and will be rigorously trained daily in preparation for weekly challenges. Challenges, including high speed car chases, intense combat, re-enactments of elaborate action scenes from internationally acclaimed action movies, general explosions, skydiving, boxing and the use of weapons and firearms, will form the basis of the assignments assessed during the elimination process.

The American public will be invited to call and vote for their preferred contestant. The two contestants that receive the least amount of public support each week will fight for their right to remain in the show. The winner of Next Action Hero – season 1 will!receive, in addition to money and prizes, the coveted prize being a major role in a future production of a Michael Bay film.!
