It’s something we all crave but how many of us actually achieve it? So how do you find your passion in life?
I believe that passion is something that you are and comes from doing and being. It is the thing that lights us and lifts us up from the inside out. I believe that we all have that inner spark and the ability to live a passionate life. I also believe that we are born with it but somehow get lost along the way. We get so caught up with the superficial things in life and forget where we originated from.
If we could just tap into that special place, we could reignite that inner spark.
Different things work for different people, but if you make the time to engage in some “YOU” time, the answers will come. You can do this by meditating, practising yoga, journaling, writing poetry, try some adult colouring books or just try being still and quiet. The point is to keep trying until you find that thing which brings you peace and joy.
Let go of being ordinary and know that you are extraordinary. This is in no way to bash being ‘ordinary’, but if you know that there is a higher purpose for your existence, don’t deprive the universe of that. You are here for a reason and it is up to you to show the world what you came here to do!
Your passions can change
I was a bartender in my previous career. I started out at 19 years old and it was an amazing opportunity for me at the time. I was able to earn great money and pay for education, vacations and property. The best part of being a bartender was interacting with other individuals.
I grew out of the job itself and even quit drinking many years ago. For a long time I knew that there was more out there for me. But I, like many, let fear hold me back from doing something that really mattered to me.
So the list of fear goes something like this, “I am not smart enough, I will not make enough money to survive, it’s going to be so hard, now’s not the right time, what if I fail?”, and the list goes on from there.
You have got to bite back at fear and know that you are smart enough, you will make enough money to survive, it’s going to be hard but it will be worth it, there is no better time than now, you will only fail if you don’t try. The only thing you should fear is not trying at all.
Here is a list of questions you can ask yourself to discover your passion in life
Make sure to write your answers down and find the common element.
- Can you remember times in your life which made you feel authentically joyful and truly alive?
- What did you enjoy doing the most when you were a child?
- What was it that you wanted to be when you were a child?
- What/who were your influences growing up and did you want to be just like them?
- On your days off, what is it that you can do endlessly or speak endlessly about?
- What are your natural talents that people compliment you on, especially strangers?
So if there’s that thing inside that keeps tugging at you, you must go for it. It won’t go away if you try to fight or ignore it.
Only you will know what that thing is. No one will ever have the answer for you but there are many people who can guide you in the right direction.
Find your support system and stick with it. Know that there are always people there who are more than willing to lift you up when you fall. There will also be people there who will kick you when you are down. There is a reason why people do that, but you don’t need to waste your energy being concerned or trying to understand why.
We all have the ability to find our passion in life and live a life full of passion. It all starts with the mind!
