Do you?

Many people drink only when they are thirsty and they consider this the only indication that their body needs water. Not drinking enough water can have dire effects on your health, many of which you may not be aware of. Each and every day the body recycles the equivalent of about 40,000 glasses of water in order to maintain its normal physiological functions.

Now that is a lot of water processing! During these processes, the body becomes short of about six to ten glasses of water, depending on your physical activity, the weather and many other factors concerning your metabolism.

The effects of not drinking enough water

If you are not drinking enough water, your body may experience a variety of negative consequences.

An early sign of not drinking enough water in addition to thirst, is a scanty dark colored urine. Your urine should be colorless, or have a bright yellow color and should be passed at least 4-5 times a day.

If you’re not drinking enough water, you will find that you suffer from several other symptoms, including:

Dry skin
– Dry mouth feeling
– Frequent Headaches
– Dizziness or lightheadedness
– Sleepiness or tiredness — children may be less active than usual
– Constipation

It can even affect your mood

Also, if you’re feeling depressed, anxious or irritable for no obvious reason, that may be due to decreased body water or dehydration, in your brain.

These are early symptoms that you’re not getting enough water and must not be ignored. If you are a healthy adult, you can usually reverse all these symptoms easily by upping your water intake – so just drink! Go ahead and calculate your approximate water needs now with this simple formula:

Your weight in pounds x 2/3 (or 67%) , now add to that 12 ounces of water for every ½ hour you workout.

Now that should be your minimum water intake, as this number may vary according to your bodys’ efficiency in processing water.
