You don’t have to resort to over-the-counter medication; you can count on plants and herbs.

Botanist James A. Duke, author of The Green Pharmacy Guide to Healing Foods says “Almost always, if we find pharmaceuticals doing the trick, we’ll find a plant doing the same trick—and doing it more safely.”
My “medicine” cabinet consists of all natural herbal remedies and essential oils and I no longer resort to pharmaceutical remedies.
One caveat for this is that you do have to quit what I call “faux” food.
Our modern Western diet is mostly comprised of highly refined processed and packaged foods, sugars and refined carbohydrates.
This diet creates inflammation and triggers the body’s pain system.
So once you have changed your diet to whole, real foods, your body will respond to the many natural herbal remedies and essential oils much quicker and you can get instant relief without the side effects.
There are many plants that have pain relieving properties.
Let’s start with the herbs
Ginger has many benefits from arthritic pain relief, to treating upset or queasy stomach.
Use the fresh root! You can either juice the ginger in a slow-speed juicer and keep the juice in the fridge or add it to a cup of warm water when you need it.
Alternately, peel and slice the ginger up, add to a pan and fill with pure water. Bring it out to boil and simmer for 15-20mins.
Leave it to cool and then keep it in the fridge.
Turmeric as been used in Ayurvedic medicine and has anti-inflammatory properties.
Turmeric can be used to help rheumatoid arthritis – an inflammatory condition.
The curcumins which are present in Turmeric are the active ingredient that eases inflammation.
Add Turmeric to your curries, scrambled eggs or make Turmeric tea. Use at least a teaspoon of Turmeric or as much as you can handle, add to fresh homemade coconut milk, or almond milk and add some organic raw honey to sweeten if needed.
For added goodness, throw in some cinnamon, ginger and nutmeg.
This essential oil contains the same component as aspirin, methyl salicylate.
Methly salicylate is a natural pain reliever without the side affect’s of aspirin which can affect the gut and the liver.
Essential oils must be mixed with a carrier oil and when applied to the skin. The oil is absorbed directly into the body, this helps the body to heal at a cellular level.
White willow bark
White Willow Bark lowers the levels of prostaglandins in the body. Prostaglandins are the hormone-like compounds that can cause aches and pain and inflammation.
This herb is good for relief from menstrual cramps, muscle pains and arthritis; it promotes blood flow and reduces swelling.
Unlike many over the counter medications it does not upset the stomach or cause internal bleeding.
