For the last eight months I’ve found myself in the process of growing out my super short pixie cut, and over this time the condition of my hair has become something of a mild obsession!
I’ve picked up a bunch of tips on growing your hair faster, longer, thicker, shinier and healthier. Coconut oil is the number one ingredient if you’re on a quest to achieve mermaid-like hair length, or just want to nourish your hair for increased health and shine.RELATED: RECOMMENDED PLANS FOR YOU
I’m here to tell you about coconut oil on hair benefits with my current great passion for healthy hair care, growth and conditioning:
1. Deep conditioning hair mask
Coconut oil has the ability to penetrate the hair shaft, giving it shine and repairing the hair cuticles. It also moisturises and stimulates your scalp, creating beautiful and strong hair that is able to grow at optimum speed.
Use melted coconut oil (it melts at only 24 degrees Celsius, I just use my hands to melt it), apply with your fingers to the roots of your hair, massage it gently to stimulate your scalp then comb it through generously all the way to the ends.
Remember hair is porous and everything soaks in, just like a sponge. If you want to make the most of any hair treatment, applying it to dry hair will make sure it will absorb many more nutrients than it ever would if already soaked in water.
So leave that mask on for minimum of 20mins – you can leave it it on for long as few hours. Shampoo your hair and style as usual. Your hair will be soft and shiny!
2. Split ends remedy
You can apply coconut oil to your ends to seal them together. If you make sure to use cold pressed, organic virgin coconut oil, it won’t leave the residue or product build-up you can often get using traditional silicone based products.
Nevertheless, if you already have a lot of damage and split ends you might need to get them trimmed, as there is no magic product to completely repair broken ends. But the coconut oil will definitely help you to keep that problem at bay so you can get that trim less often.
3. Sun damage protection
You can apply a small amount to your hair in the morning before spending a day in the sun – it makes a perfect all natural sun barrier.
4. Daily de-tangler for curly and/or very long hair
As you may already know, your scalp is producing sebum which has conditioning properties for your hair; when your hair is very curly or long, that natural hair oil can’t be distributed easily throughout the full lengths of the hair shaft and your hair may become dry, tangled and brittle as a result.
With coconut oil you can use your fingers, starting from the ends up, working out the tangles gently, and you can leave it on all day long. The coconut oil will nourish your hair the entire time.
I absolutely love coconut oil and all it does to my hair. I definitely recommend that you give it a try if you haven’t done so yet.
