Lavender is the most used essential oil in the world, and for good reason. It’s the most versatile of all essential oils. Many people are familiar with it’s calming aroma, and you’ve likely seen the plant, with bees buzzing amongst its foliage.
You may even use it on your bed sheets as a sleep aid or in your dryer to freshen laundry, but the benefits of lavender oil go far beyond its lovely smell. Here are eight unique uses of lavender essential oil.
Soothes sunburns, burns and scars

Known for it’s antimicrobial properties, lavender oil speeds the healing of burns, cuts, scrapes and wounds. Use topically on the area of concern to soothe and promote healing. You can also mix lavender oil with peppermint and frankincense to cool the skin and reduce swelling.
Headed out sailing or going on a road trip? Never fear, lavender is here. To help alleviate the symptoms of motion sickness, place a drop of lavender oil on the end of tongue, behind the ears or around the navel.
To help stop a nose bleed, place one drop of lavender under the base of the nose/space between the upper lip and nose. Mix with a carrier oil to dilute the smell if needed.
If you suffer from allergies, essential oils can help! Take lavender, lemon and peppermint oil internally in a capsule, diffuse as a blend in your home, or use the oils on your palms and inhale deeply.
Do you suffer from headaches, or migraines? Experiment with lavender. Rub lavender on your palms and inhale deeply, use a diffuser or apply topically on the temples and back of the next. An effective mixture for headaches is 2 drops each of peppermint and lavender oil applied topically to the back of the neck.
When washing your hair, add a few drops of lavender to your shampoo or conditioner and rub into scalp to help eliminate dandruff.
Do you grind your teeth at night? Before you run out and buy an expensive mouth guard, experiment with some lavender oil. Rub topically along your jaw and relax into your sleep!
Lavender has astringent, antibacterial and regenerative properties. This oil has been known to help reduce age spots, treat acne, and help improve eczema and psoriasis.
