These can be signs that your system is in desperate need of a detox. Late nights, stress, processed foods and too much alcohol can overload the liver, kidneys and digestive system, leaving them in need of a well earned rest.

Eight signs your liver is telling you it needs help:

1. abdominal bloating

2. excessive abdominal fat; pot belly; or a roll around the upper abdomen

3. trouble digesting fatty foods

4. acid reflux/heartburn

5. dark circles under the eyes

6. overheating of the body & excessive perspiration

7. acne/rosacea or itchy, blotchy skin

8. unexplained weight gain and inability to lose weight even with calorie restriction

These are signs you need to take action and follow a natural detox, detoxing helps our bodies cope with the onslaught of toxins and stress which seem to be an unavoidable part of modern day life.

How Do You Do A Detox?

A detox program has to address both internal and external toxins. Not only do we need to deal with the toxins we eat, drink, breathe and put on our bodies, it is just as important to address the internal toxicity created by the body as it performs its normal everyday functions.

I would always recommend a longer term 10 to 28 day supported detox with my clients but you can also do a short 1 – 3 day detox

 Supported Detox Program

This must supply the appropriate nutrients to enable the body to detox effectively, and should include nutrients specifically to support the two most important detoxification organ systems, the liver and the gastro-intestinal tract. It is essential to have a programme that is based on effective, all natural herbs and plant based nutrients that work with your body’s own detoxification and elimination pathways.

The aim is:

1. Remove the number of toxins going in

2. Assist the body’s natural capacity to neutralize and eliminate the toxins

a) Support gastro-intestinal function

b) Support liver function

 Shorter 1 – 3 Day Detox

You can try a quick one to three Day Smoothie detox challenge to get back on track. If the words smoothie or detox make you nervous, they shouldn’t! if you do it right you are working to prepare your body for a healthier more natural lifestyle.

There are some golden rules you need to follow:

Ensure your smoothies are at least 80% green (80% green veg, with 1 serving of low sugar fruits added for a touch of sweetness)

Always add protein to your smoothies, I use a plant based organic protein powder and would recommend that you do some careful research on your protein powders, read the labels carefully as most have too many “nasties” in that you don’t want to be adding in to your smoothies and putting in your body

Add chia seeds or flax seed to boost your smoothie

A detox can help you kick-start your weight loss, help with acne and other skin conditions, boost your immunity, improve your gut health and so much more.
