Holiday character party
RELATED: RECOMMENDED PLANS FOR YOU
Guests are invited to come as their favorite character from a holiday movie. Whether it’s the Grinch, Hermey the dentist, or Ralphie from “A Christmas Story” there are plenty of options, from easy to elaborate. This party is sure to amuse and one that can be held before Christmas or after the holidays for a January celebration.
Christmas music celebration
Invite your guests to vote on their favorite holiday music. Include a range – from Bing Crosby to Mariah Carey, and play the music during the party. Bonus: burn a cd for each guest as a hostess gift.
Christmas around the world potluck
Each country has their own traditional holiday food, drinks, ornaments, etc. Assign a country or continent to each guest (or group) and have them bring food or drink from that area, along with the history of the tradition. This makes the party more cultural, educational and fun! Guests get to decide on their own what to bring and share the story before consuming. Parting gift could be an ornament from each country or continent.
Killer abs workout:
These start easy, and get harder. Aim to get in at least one set of all five each day.
Lie face down on the floor with your legs and arms extended. Simultaneously, raise your arms, legs and chest off of the floor and hold for a count of two (you should look like Superman!). Slowly lower yourself down to starting position. Repeat slowly, ten times.
Single leg drop
Lie on your back on the floor, placing your hands under your hips. Have your feet together and toes pointed up (feet flexed). Keeping your legs straight, slowly raise them toward the ceiling. Pause at the top.
Engage your core, and in a controlled motion lower your left leg as far as you can toward the floor. Return left leg to meet right, and slowly lower your right leg as far as you can toward the floor. That’s one rep. Repeat ten times.
Spider man plank
Place your forearms on the floor, with your elbows under your shoulders, and extend your legs behind you, knees on the floor. Lift your right foot and bend your right knee toward the outside of your right elbow, then extend it in a slow and controlled motion straight behind you, keeping your foot a few inches off of the ground.
Pause, then lower your knee to the floor. Switch legs and repeat on the other side. That’s one rep. Repeat ten times.
Lie face up on the floor, with your arms out to the side. Raise your feet, bending your knees to 90 degrees directly over your hips. Keeping your legs together, engage your core and lower both knees to the left as far as you can toward the floor. Pause, then reverse back to the starting position; immediately lower your knees to the right. Return to start. That’s one rep. Repeat ten times.
With the tops of your feet on an exercise ball (ensure it’s a proper size for your height), place yourself in push-up position, keeping your back straight and your core engaged. Flex at the hips and bring your knees in toward your belly button. Stop once your tip toes are on the ball. Pause, and in a controlled motion, bring yourself back to starting position. Repeat ten times.
Have a wonderful holiday season and Happy New Year!
