It’s the holiday season and it is time for celebrations, libations and new recipes. These can be great fun of course but, over time they can leave you a bit worse for wear and your body in a less than conditioned state!

So help avoid this fate I would like to share with you a few of my healthy mocktail recipes! These look good, they taste great and they will actually provide you with health benefits.

What do you drink at parties?

At parties during any major holiday season, you will always find an assortment of wine and spirits and if it’s a children’s party, non-alcoholic punch and sugary drinks are probably plentiful.

It is no secret that drinking too much alcohol  has the strong likelihood of  leaving you feeling horrible the next day.

And artificially colored, chemical-laden punch and soda can wreak havoc on your body.  So this year why not celebrate with a healthy and delicious mocktail?

Why choose a mocktail?

Mocktails are great because they’re easy to make, less expensive to drink and better for your health.

It’s fun to do something a little fancy for the holidays.  Make these recipes the go-to mocktails for your next holiday party.

Refreshing Ginger-Fizz

– ½ inch peeled, fresh ginger, grated
– 10 fresh mint leaves
– 1 lemon
– ½ pureed pear
– Seltzer water
– 2 glasses

1. First, puree your pear.

2. In a large bowl, muddle 8 mint leaves and the grated ginger. Add the pear puree and mix together.

3. Peel your lemon and cut the rind in half.  These will be used for the garnish ‘lemon twists’.

4. Put half the concoction in each glass. Add the lemon juice to the mixture. Then add ice and seltzer water and stir.

5. Garnish with mint leaves and lemon twist!

Makes 2 servings

Note:  You can make a larger amount by doubling or quadrupling the recipe and storing the muddled mixture with lemon juice added in the refrigerator.  Spoon out amount desired into your glass, fill with seltzer and garnish!

Holiday Berry Bliss

mocktail recipes_2– 2 oz. cherry juice
– 1 oz. pomegranate juice
– 10 pureed blueberries

1. Puree your fruits and set aside.

2. Mix juices together and add pureed fruit.

3. Spoon half the mixture into each glass.  Fill with seltzer and ice.

4. Garnish each glass with 2 mint leaves.

Note:  To make this a little fancier, you can serve in champagne glasses!

Spiced Apple Pie

– 4 oz. apple cider
– 2 green tea bags
– 2 cloves
– 4 allspice berries
– ½ inch peeled, grated ginger
– 2 cinnamon sticks
– 2 mugs

1. In a pan, boil about 8 oz. water with cloves, allspice and ginger for 2-5 minutes (boil longer for a stronger spice flavor).

2. Add tea bags and turn off water.  Let steep for 15 minutes.

3. Stir in apple cider.

4. Place a cinnamon stick into each mug.

5. Using a strainer over the top to keep cloves and allspice out of the mug, pour your liquid apple pie into each mug and garnish with cinnamon stick.

All you and your friends have to do now is Enjoy! Write in the comments and tell me which mocktail you like best!
