Winter is hot drinks time and the prime winter hot drinks time has to be Christmas.

But I’m not just talking about tea and coffee here. Now is the time for interesting warming drinks – and there’s no reason why they can’t be healthy too!

I have come up with some of my favourite concoctions which I’m very happy to share with you here…

RELATED: RECOMMENDED PLANS FOR YOU

Spiced Hot Chocolate

This is my version of a warming hot, spiced chocolate drink that’s so good, especially during winter, tastes great and warms you right the way through.

There are no processed sugars and it is dairy free

The spices give the hot chocolate a different twist and give you that warm comforting feeling. The cacao powder is packed full of antioxidants that chase off those free radicals that wreck havoc in the body.

Cinnamon helps to balance blood sugar and is very good spice for diabetics.I usually don’t use any sweetener in it because the cinnamon adds that little bit of sweetness the drink needs, but feel free to add the maple syrup if you want.

Enjoy it because I certainly do, and I know you’ll be returning for plenty more!

Ingredients

– 10 cardamom pods
– 4 cloves
– 1 cinnamon stick
– 2 cups almond milk
– 2 tbsp. raw cacao powder
– 1 tsp. maple syrup (or you choice of natural sweetener, optional)

Directions

1. Pour the milk into a saucepan

2. Add the cardamom pods, cloves and cinnamon stick

3. Bring to boil over medium heat

4. Put one tbsp. of cacao into two cups

5. Pour in the hot, spiced milk and mix thoroughly

6. Add the maple syrup of sweetener (if required)

Anti-Inflammatory Tea

healthy hot drinks_2Winter is the time most people want to curl up in bed and hibernate especially when the cold or flu gets them. At such times, I thoroughly recommend  this tea that is so warming and healthy for the body.

The choice of spices have anti-bacterial, anti-viral and antiseptic properties and the ginger has a high vitamin C content which helps boost the immune system which is the body’s defense against infection. All of which combines to ensure this really is a super healthy hot drink!

The tea will also help with decongestion. So put your feet up and get comfortable with this healthy homemade tea and feel your body relax and heal!

Ingredients

– ½ tsp. turmeric
– ½ inch ginger, chopped
– ½ lemon
– ¼ tsp. black peppercorns
1 cinnamon stick
– ½ tsp. Manuka honey (optional)
– 2 cups of water

Directions

1. Add the water and spices into a sauce pan

2. Bring to boil over medium heat

3. Pour hot tea into two tea cups

4. Squeeze about one tsp. of lemon into each cup and stir

5. Add honey if required and enjoy!

I know you will enjoy these and they will add something new to your winter-time hot drink options.

They are easy to make, inexpensive in terms of ingredients and, best of all, have genuine and deep-rooted health properties.

So you can enjoy and indulge in healthy hot drinks with a totally free conscience! I wish you a very Happy Christmas and a happy and healthy 2016!
