This simple green avocado salad is sure to please your taste buds, suppress your appetite and promote fat loss all at the same time!

Oleic acid found in the avocado and olive oil sends signals to your brain to curb your appetite.

The greens actually fill your stomach so they assist in turning off the hunger signals to your brain.  The lean protein found in chicken also sends signals to the brain that are transmitted back to the stomach to release glucose—which suppresses the desire to eat.

Ingredients:

For the Salad:
2 cups of fresh greens (e.g. 1 cup of spinach & 1 cup kale)
2 oz. cooked chicken (or shrimp)
2 tbsp grated parmesan
50g fresh avocado, sliced

For the Dressing:
½ tbsp fresh lime juice (or lemon)
¼ tbsp extra virgin olive oil
1 tbsp water
½ tbsp honey
salt & pepper to taste
1 tsp grated lime (or lemon) peel, if desired

1. Combine the ingredients for the dressing & whisk to mix. Set aside.

2. In a medium bowl, toss the fresh greens, grated parmesan, & the prepared dressing. Let it set for about 2 minutes to let the lemon juice soften the kale slightly. Top with the chicken & avocado slices– enjoy!!

If you want a little more bang for your buck, there are several additions you can make to this salad to increase the calories without sacrificing the health benefits. There are also other variations of the salad to fit your specific health needs.

-Double the amount of protein used

-Try other fresh greens such as romaine

-Try adding baby tomatoes, ¼ cup black beans, replacing the parmesan with a Mexican blend of cheese and sprinkling with fresh cilantro to change the overall style of the salad

-Add quinoa (1/4  -1/2 cup cooked) to simply increase the carbohydrates

-For a vegetarian friendly option, try 2-4 ounces of baked & seasoned extra firm tofu instead of chicken

-If you don’t like avocado, you’re not out of luck–just omit the avocado and add a .5 ounce of the nuts of your choice to keep the appetite curbing benefits of the fats
