However, she found her way out and she shares her tips and advice, hoping that people struggling with the same issues, might find their way out as well, achieve their weight loss goals and stay there.
1. Make yourself a priority.
Oprah explained that she found inspiration in a saying by author Marianne Williamson who said: “Your overweight self does not stand before you craving food. It’s craving love.”
So here is Oprah’s advice to you:
“When you love yourself enough, you take care of yourself. Like all of you I’m really good at giving love to other people; but we all need to give ourselves as much love and support as we give to others. “
Easier said than done! But, while we understand that loving yourself is a hard enough journey in itself; we also know that it can be achieved one small gesture at a time. One of the best ways to achieve that, is to take time for yourself, time to take care of your body and your mind.
We are all busy people, but it is important to ensure that you dedicate some time for yourself. Whatever you want to do, whatever you enjoy; this time is for you and you alone.
Need half an hour to meditate and clear your mind? Do it! Want to feel beautiful? Book yourself an hour and get that manicure!
2. Healthy eating is so much easier when planned.
I know that it’s something you hear often but it really helps: plan your meals!
Firstly, because if you have a list of planned meals when you go shopping, you will be less tempted to buy that cake, those crisps or that pizza. And if you don’t have the junk food at home, it is easier to resist the cravings. You might even find yourself not craving it at all.
Secondly, planning your meal will allow you to be more conscious about your snacking. Oprah explained that having a weekly meal plan helped her replace her big evening meal and her daily snacking into smaller, healthier yet satisfying, regular meals throughout the day.
3. Do not minimize the importance of exercising.
Whether it is cardio or resistance training, working out has a major impact on your health, your body and your weight.
If cardio appeals more to you, there is only one thing to remember: it has to be hard enough that you get benefits from it. However, knowing when you are making your body work hard enough is where things get complicated. So here is Oprah’s explanation: “You can talk, you can carry on a conversation, you can sing; but you really don’t want to. It would be uncomfortable after a few minutes”.
However for the many women that are still reluctant to add weights into their workout; just listen to what Oprah has to say about it: “Resistance training has proved to be really fascinating because, even though the weight isn’t dropping the way I would like it to, I can see actually that my shape is changing. It’s getting firmer and the clothes are getting looser. And that’s all because of the weights.”
