So you feel disgusted with yourself after a blow out. Maybe you gave into temptation after a drink or maybe had a moment of weakness at a party or get together. You feel larger than a beached whale and ready to give up the diet again!

But have you really wrecked yet another diet?

If you continually think of weight loss and diets as temporary, you will be forever on or off a diet. But the truth is you are only ever one meal, workout, snack, sleep, walk or positive thought away from getting back on track.

This is why I have put together the perfect one day detox diet plan. It is designed to reset fat burning hormones, alleviate water retention and bloating therefore making you feel trimmer and motivated again. This one day detox diet that will get you right back on track in less than 24 hours, help eliminate 2-5lbs of weight and it won’t leave you feeling hungry or deprived either.

Firstly it is important to recognise that the bloating you feel after giving in to temptation will not be from sudden fat gain. Fat does not accumulate that quickly. It is likely to be water retention from the excess alcohol, carbs, salt and sugar.

Secondly it is also important to realise that sometimes a blow out on a diet is a good thing. It can act as a reset button for hunger hormones, meaning your metabolism doesn’t panic about starvation and merrily sets about burning fat from the cells once more.

Even better it allows you to enjoy occasional indulgences without guilt because you all you need to do is embark on this one day detox diet to get you right back on track and even help your body burn more fat!

During the one day detox diet we will be basing each of the three main meals on protein which will re-balance your blood sugars. This will stabilise hunger, stress and energy levels. Eliminating starchy carbohydrates, salt and sugar for the day will force the body to release water accumulated from the blowout therefore allowing fat burning to continue!

Add to that masses of green vegetables to encourage the body to release water and start to burn it’s fat stores again.

Aims of the one day detox diet

To encourage the body to release water retention up 2-5lbs of weight loss.

To reset metabolic and hunger hormones, to kick starting fat burning again.

To encourage insulin sensitivity and better energy management.

To encourage the lymphatic system thus aiding detoxification.

Warning: You are likely to visit the bathroom a lot! This is normal and a sign your body is releasing water!

One day detox diet plan

To allow for metabolic reset, shoot for a minimum 12-hours fast over night. For example, if you last ate at 8pm then aim to eat around 8am. But regardless of when you eat, the first meal of the day is the most important one to get right.

Through out the day be mindful of your breathing. The Lymphatic system is reliant on deep belly breathing to help it transport toxins into the blood before they are detoxified by your liver. Put a reminder on your phone to alert you to check your breathing every hour!

-Upon rising: 1 litre of warm water with half a squeezed lemon and a few slices of fresh ginger

-Pre-breakfast: Perform 10-20 minutes of fast burst activity to stimulate the metabolism such as fast squats, mountain climbers, jumping jacks, air punches or a quick walk/sprint around the block. Anything that will get you breathless and sweaty!

-Breakfast: Two poached eggs on a bed of watercress, asparagus, half a small sliced avocado and add a sprig of fresh parsley with a cup of herbal tea (see below).

-Mid morning: 1 alkalising greens drink and celery if you need to chew or crunch on something.

-Pre-lunch: Walk outside for 30-60 minutes to boost the lymphatic system, oxygen levels and energy flow. It will also help lower water retaining stress hormones too.

-Lunch: A large grilled chicken breast with an enormous fill your boots salad. Use a small drizzle of olive oil and lemon juice to dress. Load it high with fresh herbs such as basil or coriander. Use spinach, rocket, watercress, cucumber, celery, tomatoes, radishes, red onion and the other half of the small avocado.

-Afternoon snack: 1 small handful of walnuts, almonds or brazils.

-Dinner: Baked fish with fresh parsley and lemon on a mountain of steamed vegetables such as kale, broccoli, cabbage and brussels. Use extra virgin olive oil to dress the vegetables.

-Drinks: Drink herbal teas (choose ones that contain any or all of the following: dandelion root, burdock root, milk thistle, liquorice root, peppermint, spearmint, ginger root, sage, galangal root, artichoke leaves) throughout the day. Sip plain water (add fresh lemon or ginger to taste and aim for 3 litres) throughout the day. The more hydrated you are, the more water your body will release!

-Pre-bedtime: Take a warm Epsom Salt bath and a cup of chamomile tea ready for a fitful nights fat burning sleep!

Aim for 8-10 hours sleep as this is your body’s hormone reset and prime fat burning time.

 Final note: 

Learn to park each set-back, leave it behind and move on. If you can learn from why you gave in to temptation you are better placed to put plans in place to avoid it happening again. If however it does happen again then at least now you have the one day detox diet to get you back on track!
