The Lemon Detox diet is known originally as the ’Master Cleanse’ and claims to detox on the body and have the positive side effect of promoting weight loss. At $160 retail for a 2 week detox it is worth a try to drop some kilos right? WRONG!

This essentially is a starvation diet. You may (in fact you will) lose weight on this 2 week detox, however not only will you gain it ALL back you will also add some extra kilos that will be even harder to lose, because you have slowed your bodies metabolism down so drastically in order to survive to the 2 weeks of starvation.

Days 1-10 (Minimum 5 days up to 14 days maximum)

Breakfast

– 2-3 glasses of the Lemon Detox drink

Lunch

– 2-3 glasses of the Lemon Detox drink

– Dinner

– 2-3 glasses of the Lemon Detox drink

Here is a summary from the creator, Stanley Burroughs: “doing the Lemon Detox Diet cleanse for 10 days as this will ensure the body is well cleansed. By the time you get to the 7th day, you’ll most likely feel so good that going a few extra days will be easy. Going 10-14 days will give you the maximum result by keeping your body in detox mode longer but should only be done so with the consent of a healthcare professional”

– There is no food

– No essential nutrients required for the body to function daily

– A minimum of 5 days is expected of starvation

– You are only having “3 detox meal/drinks” per day

– No health professional will consent to doing days 10-14 of the detox plan

– The plan encourages rapid weight loss (not ideal for the body & is not sustainable)

Scientific studies conducted on the Lemon Detox plan discovered that even if there was rapid weight loss, there was also a dramatic drop in metabolic rate, causing participant to put on more body fat post the detox.

The reason why celebs are turning to these quick fixes can be due to the way they are marketed.  However, you never actually know if they have the diet or the creators are just using their name.

– Suffer from festive season indulgence

– Want a quick pre summer/post summer cleanse

– Are looking for maximum weight loss in short period of time

– Want to look good before a holiday or social event

At least one of these appeals to women at some point during the year or even month! But ladies I implore you not to take this ‘quick fix’ method because it is NOT a quick fix method. It will be much harder to achieve your ideal weight or body type if you keep reaching for the fads. Instead, focus your time & energy on changing daily diet habits.

– Add an extra 500mls of water into your day, EVERYDAY

– Ensure you eat every 3 – 4 hours (not just Monday – Friday, Monday – Sunday)

– 1200 calories is not the magic number of calories for everybody – some people need more some people need less.

– Have protein at every meal and snack

– Include an extra portion of veggies in your day
