Ready to give juicing a whirl? It’s an easy way to get more fruits and veggies into your diet. Before you get started, you should know a few things about what you can expect juicing to do for you. So here we go…

The best, easiest, quickest and often tastiest way to load your body up with beautifying plants is by drinking them. Juices are like precious elixir of life, in fact your best ally when it comes to saying hello to health and beauty 😉 and saying good bye to illness and excess weight. Drinking  veggie juices is like delivering a big shot of enzymes, oxygen and vitamins straight into your blood stream.

Here is another benefit of juicing:

When we juice our veggies, we’re removing the indigestible fiber and making the nutrients more readily available to the body in much larger quantities than if you were to eat the fruits and vegetables whole. When you drink fresh veggie juices, your body is being soaked in nutrients, without having to use up any of its precious energy.

Juicing rules

– If you are juicing starchy veggies like carrots, beetroots, broccoli and zucchini, don’t combine them with any other fruit besides green apple. It will only mess with your digestive enzymes. Starchy foods have to be eaten alone, because starches are digested with enzymes that are different from those, used by any other food group. Combining starchy foods with fruit may cause fermentation and gas. However, green leafy veggies combine well with pretty much everything.

– If you are preparing a drink of dark, leafy greens, be sure to add some cucumber. Leafy greens tend to be quite strong and not taste all that great. Cucumber masks the taste and adds refreshing flavor to the drink. Additionally, there are many vitamins and minerals in cucumbers, particularly if you eat the skin.

– Keep the sugar content of your juices to a minimum, by only adding a small amount of fruit. Don’t add any more than one piece of fruit, like a green apple to a green juice.

How to incorporate juicing into a healthy diet

– You can get all creative by throwing some green superfoods (like wheat grass or spirulina) into the mix. Super alkalizing and excellent for promoting healthy blood, wheat grass normalises the thyroid gland to stimulate your metabolism. It also assists with digestion and promotes weight loss, due to its high enzyme content and cleansing effect. It’s best to have fresh, juiced wheat grass rather than the powdered stuff.

– When preparing to juice your fruits and veggies try to get them into smaller sizes instead of attempting to feed them in, in their original form. Use a knife to cut each vegetable and fruit into smaller chunks so that it fits easily down the chute.

-Try to drink your juice straight away. For juices, light and air will destroy much of the nutrients after just 15 minutes.

– When trying to find a juicer, look for one that is easy to clean. Time-consuming assembly and clean up can prevent you from juicing regularly. It certainly helps if you clean your juicer immediately after juicing, otherwise pulp will get caught in the machine and oxidise, making your next juice all gross.

– Try using a masticating type of juicer. These types of juices extract the juice in a gentle manner. This gentle juicing method allows for more nutrients to remain in the juice that you drink.

– You can use juice as a meal replacement. A single glass of juice can really contain quite a bit of food. Drink your juice by itself and benefit from the near-immediate entry of the nutrients to your bloodstream.

– Try to buy organic plant sources as much as possible due to the fact that no heat is being applied to fruits and vegetables to remove much of the pesticides and chemicals on their surfaces, as is the state of inorganic plant produce.

Because it is more expensive to purchase organic fruits and veggies you can also try cleaning chemicals off inorganic plants using a homemade combination: 1 tablespoon of lemon juice, 2 tablespoons of baking soda, 1 cup of water.

Pour the mixture into a spray-topped bottle. Spray the fruits and vegetables, leave for 5 minutes. Don’t be perturbed if the mixture appears frothy as this is the chemical nature of baking soda. Rinse well.
