Coconut Has Many Benefits

Coconuts are now classed as a superfood and can add flavour, variety and best of all healthy nutrients to your diet. Coconuts are rich in lauric acid, which is known for being antiviral, antibacterial and anti-fungal, and also boosts the immune system.

Coconut is also highly nutritious and rich in fibre, vitamins, and minerals. It is classified as a “functional food” because it provides many health benefits beyond its nutritional content. The coconut provides a nutritious source of meat, juice, milk, and oil that has fed and nourished populations around the world for generations.

Coconut has many nutritional benefits and apart from actually eating the coconut, (you can buy coconut pieces at your local superstores) you can also use its oil and drink its milk and water!  Read on for a complete guide to the benefits of coconut water.

A HEALTHY FAT you can cook/fry with is COCONUT OIL.

White coconut oil that hasn’t been bleached or refined is solid at room temperature, with a texture more like butter than oil.

Health Benefits That Coconut Oil May Help with

include hair care, skin care, stress relief, maintaining cholesterol levels, weight loss, increased immunity, proper digestion and metabolism, relief from kidney problems, heart diseases, high blood pressure, diabetes, HIV and cancer, dental care, and bone strength.

The benefits of coconut oil can be attributed to the presence of lauric acid, capric acid and caprylic acid, and its properties such as antimicrobial, antioxidant, anti-fungal, antibacterial, soothing, etc.

Coconut Oil Does Not Turn Rancid (Toxic)

Coconut oil is the only oil that is stable enough to resist heat-induced damage, and does not turn rancid (toxic). That’s why you should only cook with coconut oil. So, whenever you need an oil to cook with, use coconut oil instead of butter, olive oil, vegetable oil, margarine, or any other type of oil.

Even though I don’t fully recommend frying foods, if you must fry, by all means use coconut oil, it’s your smartest choice.

Fat From Coconut Is Rapidly Metabolised

Unlike other types of fats (which are mostly long chain fats), the saturated fat from coconut is rapidly metabolised, meaning that its more easily burned as energy and less likely to be stored as fat. It has also been shown to increase metabolism slightly, and help us feel fuller, faster.

Coconut Milk

A great alternative to cow and soya milk is Coconut milk. Coconut milk is great tasting and again has all the beneficial nutrients that coconut has. It’s a great alternative to cows and soya milk if you want to improve your health or have trouble digesting the other two forms.

Unlike cow’s milk, coconut milk is lactose free so can be used as a milk substitute by those with lactose intolerance. It is a popular choice with vegans and makes a great base for smoothies, milkshakes or as a dairy alternative in baking. It’s something I also personally use. I eve be used teaspoon in my coffee!

Coconuts Are Rich in Vitamins and Minerals

Coconuts are highly nutritious and rich in fibre, vitamins C, E, B1, B3, B5 and B6 and minerals including iron, selenium, sodium, calcium, magnesium and phosphorous.

As you can see coconut superfood is highly nutritious and will benefit your health in many ways! Although it contains natural saturated fat, it’s fat the body can actually use as energy! The actual coconut is another great snack to enjoy between meals instead of reaching for that chocolate or cereal bar! So however you use it, be safe in the knowledge it’s benefiting your health.
