Science can easily explain how food is converted into energy, but with the influx of fast-paced living, processed foods, and seeds either being genetically modified or simply changing form and structure, little is known how this affects digestion.

Let’s face it, the digestive tract is complicated. Regardless, it is important to understand that it is home to the largest part of the body’s immune system. Some experts say that approximately 70% of your immune system is in the gut. And therefore a fundamental key to having health and vitality is a healthy tummy.

Of course every person is different so it is important to become conscious of foods that cause havoc. In general, avoid foods that cause inflammation after eating such as, lactose, fructose, eggs, and wheat and gluten.

Processed foods (i.e. aspartamene found in chewing gum), high fructose corn syrup, and mainstream antacids and/or proton pump inhibitors are also difficult on the digestive tract. Focus on building healthy gut bacteria and eliminate the possibility for bad bacteria (such as yeast overgrowth) to over-populate.

Fermented Foods

Sauerkraut, kimchi, kefir, and yogurt (that have active cultures, contains milk from cows not treated with growth hormones (rBGH), and is not high in sugar. Coconut yoghurt is a great alternatives.

High-Quality Probiotics

Small amounts are found in fermented foods. Nevertheless, it is recommended to include a variety of strains that are mightier than the bad bacteria. Here is a list of suggested strains.

Peppermint oil

Studies have indicated that this oil can assist with bloating, especially those with IBS. Ensure the essential oil is therapeutic grade and safe to drink (does not include fillers or chemicals). Otherwise take it in capsule form.

People often underestimate the health properties of cucumber. They reduce swelling, are hydrating, and they also contain a good amount of Vitamin C.

Asparagus
