It’s interesting how many comments I get from clients, prospects, friends, family members and acquaintances who complain about feeling fat and bloated.
What seems like such a debilitating condition can be corrected with a few adjustments to your lifestyle. Granted, you will need at least a marginal amount of discipline.
LACK of discipline is a big reason why you got yourself into this predicament in the first place. Don’t be hate’n. I’m just being honest. I’m sure you already know that’s the case anyway. Let’s now get to the solution.RELATED: RECOMMENDED PLANS FOR YOU
Feeling Bloated and Fat? Here’s What to Do
Eliminate the sodium
Maybe I shouldn’t go quite as extreme to say eliminate sodium from your diet altogether. But consider really cutting down.
Do you know what happens when you eat a megadose of sodium? You retain water. Do you know what water retention does? It makes you feel fat and bloated, that’s what!
Pay attention to how your body feels and reacts the next time you scarf down half a pizza or a burger with fries. Chances are you will wake up the next morning feeling bloated all over and fat. That’s because you are holding on to so much water.
Simply cut back on the foods AND beverages that contain high amounts of sodium. This is not always obvious either. With really salty foods it is, but be careful of vegetable juices, canned vegetables, cereal, bread, sauces and condiments.
Drink plenty of water
Water has an amazing ability to hydrate the body, which is critically important during exercise. It also helps flush toxins and impurities from your system, as well as stored fluid. Yes, drink water and you can reduce water retention.
I’m not going to give you any fancy equations or theorems on how much you should drink because I don’t want to complicate matters. Just make sure to have water as your sole beverage and consume it regularly throughout the entire day.
Cut back on sweets
It should come to you as no surprise that eating a high amount of sweets leads to weight gain. This would be the fat part of the equation.
Sweets spike your blood sugar levels, which in turn causes your pancreas to release an explosive amount of insulin—known as a fat-storage hormone. Get the picture?
Drop the sweets and all processed carbs from your diet to help keep your blood sugar levels more stable. This will not only reduce your chances of holding on to stored fat, but it will also ultimately lead to a less bloated feeling.
Tone it down with the alcohol
High amounts of alcohol do a sweet little number on your body. First and foremost, you pretty much feel bloated instantly after you consume it.
Secondly, it causes your testosterone levels to plummet, which is bad news for muscle preservation. Remember, muscle is a highly metabolic substance that burns a lot of calories while you are at rest.
Lastly, alcohol causes a substrate called acetate to develop. The bad news is, this further slows down your body’s ability to burn fat at rest.
It is best to just leave the alcohol to those who don’t care about feeling fat or bloated. If you have no choice, keep your intake minimal and alternate back and forth between an alcoholic beverage and water.
Get your sweat on
I really don’t think there is any better way to shed the bloated blues then a nice, hard workout. Couple regular workouts with the dietary changes mentioned above, and you can easily expect to see results in a matter of days.
The weight may come off slowly, but you will certainly FEEL less bloated and fat.
Choose a two-pronged approach that involves both weight training and cardiovascular exercise for the best results. Aim for five or six days of training a week and stick to something that you enjoy doing.
There’s nothing worse than struggling through workouts that you really don’t want to do.
